TREES & ME!
trees aRE my most favourite subject IN MY PAINTINGS.
Trees have played an important part in my life.

After retiring from the horticultural & environmental industries (2009) where much of my work had revolved around trees, I re-invented myself as an artist with trees as my most favourite subject.
Trees & other plants have played a major part in my life. My ancestors in England called Woadmere, grew Woad (Isatis tinctoria) to produce the dominant blue dye used in Europe at the time.
What better subject than trees for my paintings? I guess my name WOODmore says it all!
As a child, here in Western Australia, I lived on an orchard in Jarrahdale, with Orange, Apple, Plum, Peach, Apricot, Pear, Fig, Cherry & Quince trees. We were in the midst of the Forest surrounded by towering Jarrah trees with an understory of Bracken fern, wild orchids, Acacia & Banksia trees. In those days there were many wild native animals, birds, snakes & lizards as well as foxes, rabbits, feral cats, a couple of Brumbies (Wild horses) and even feral bantam chickens that flew like pheasants, on a neglected property adjoining ours.
As a working adult I was very involved with all aspects of trees - seeds, propagation, transplanting and nursery care of tree seedlings & cuttings.
I was the seed store manager for Kimseed, an environmental company which, at the time, was the largest supplier of Australian Native seeds in the world.
I have been a licensed seed collector gathering seeds from the wild for re-vegetation projects.
I have planted thousands of trees on roadsides & was a team leader for the Mandurah Rail Link Grass tree (Xanthorrhoea species) project. Removing & transplanting grass trees back into the environment.
I also propagated tens of thousands of tree seedlings for EMS (Environmental Management Systems).
I have a chainsaw ticket, but must have grown a thousand trees for every one tree I ever cut down.

I paint in cycles of about three months & then have a break of about three months & start all over again.
During my three month break, which I refer to as an artistic 'drought'
I might find myself updating my websites or out & about enjoying the birds & trees and metal detecting.
